Common washer problems we fix
Most washer calls come down to a handful of failures, and the symptom usually points to the part. Here is what we see day to day across Metro Vancouver, on both front-load and top-load machines.
Washer will not drain or spin
Nine times out of ten this is a blocked or failed drain pump, a clogged filter, or a broken lid switch or door lock that stops the spin cycle from starting. On front-loaders it often shows as an LE, OE or 5E fault. We clear the blockage or replace the pump and get the cycle finishing again.
Washer leaking water
Leaks trace back to the door boot seal on front-loaders, a cracked hose, a loose drain connection, or a worn tub seal. We find the source rather than guess, because a door seal and a tub bearing are very different jobs.
Washer shakes, bangs or walks across the floor
Violent shaking on spin usually means worn suspension rods or shock absorbers, or on older top-loaders a failed drive block. A machine that walks away from the wall needs those dampers replaced before it damages itself.
Washer will not fill, or the door will not unlock
No water points to the inlet valve or a water-supply issue. A door that stays locked after the cycle is usually the door lock assembly or the control board. Both are common, both are fixable.
Washer error codes
We read and clear the fault codes on every major brand: LE, OE, UE and dE on LG, 5E, 4E and UB on Samsung, F and E codes on Whirlpool and Maytag, and the E-codes on Bosch. The code narrows the diagnosis, but we still test the part before replacing it.
Repair or replace your washer?
A good rule: if the machine is under about eight years old and the repair costs less than half the price of a new one, fixing it is usually worth it. We give you the honest number before any work starts, so you can decide. The $79 service call is waived when you go ahead with the repair.

Washer Repair FAQs
The price to repair your washing machine will vary, all depending on the issue that needs to be repaired, the model of the washer, and the parts that are needed.
Generally, a typical washing machine should last you 10-13 years when maintained properly. Top-loading washers often last a few more years than front-loading washers do.
Old washing machines are heavier than today’s machines and were built to last. Old washing machines were generally constructed with better quality materials, giving them a much longer lifespan than new washing machines from today. If you have an old washing machine that is worth repairing, it may be the better choice than buying a new one.
This depends on the total cost of the repair and age of the washer versus the cost of buying a new washer. If the cost of the repair is higher than the value of the washer, it would not be worth it to continue with the repair. If you need help figuring out if it is worth it to repair your washer, a service technician can assist you.
