Common stove and cooktop problems we fix

Whether you cook on gas, electric coil, or a glass induction top, a burner that will not light or heat is the most common reason people call us. The fix depends on the type of stove.

Gas burner will not light or keeps clicking

Constant clicking usually means a wet or dirty igniter, or a cracked ceramic igniter that needs replacing. A burner that will not light at all can be a clogged burner port, a failed spark module, or a wiring fault. We clean, test and replace as needed.

Electric coil or radiant element will not heat

On coil stoves it is often the element itself or the burner receptacle it plugs into. On smooth-top radiant stoves it is the surface element or the infinite switch that controls the heat level. Both are straightforward once we confirm which has failed.

Induction cooktop not recognizing the pan or shutting off

Induction tops need magnetic cookware, so the first check is the pan. Beyond that, an element that will not power on, an error code, or a top that shuts off mid-cook usually points to the induction coil or the control board. These take a technician who works on induction regularly, which we do.

Control knobs, sparking, or a burner stuck on high

A burner stuck on high or one that will not adjust is typically the infinite switch or, on gas, the valve. Sparking or a burnt smell should be checked promptly, since it points to a wiring or switch fault.

Is it worth fixing a stove?

This depends on the total cost of the repair and age of the stove versus the cost of buying a new stove.
