A handle that couldn’t hold on
The freezer is a GE upright, model FUF21DLREWW. Its door handle had broken at the mounting end, so it no longer sat firmly on the door. It’s the part you pull every time you open the door, and it needed replacing.
Up close, the damage was easy to see. The plastic around the metal threaded insert had cracked, and the threads inside had torn out. Once that happens, the handle can’t be tightened back down. There’s nothing left for the fastener to grip, so the only real fix is a new handle.
Fitting the new handle
The replacement arrived as a complete handle with fresh mounting ends. We took the broken one off, lined the new handle up with the door and fastened it in place with the small set screws and a hex key. Start to finish, the repair took about 30 minutes, and it’s covered by our 90-day warranty on parts and labour.
A broken handle is one of the quicker freezer repairs we do. We take on freezer repair and GE appliance repair for customers who need appliance repair in Langley and across Metro Vancouver.
